I remember playing school as a kid…seating charts, grade registers, the whole nine yards. Eventually, I did become a teacher—but of this practice of yoga that I love so much. Thankfully, in this profession, there are no assigned seats or grades, and definitely no nine yards. There’s simply showing up and doing the practice.

I’ve created these instructional videos to help you show up and do the practice. They are short videos (typically between three and four minutes) from recent classes that share teaching points of key poses or movements and provide a glimpse into my earnest approach to teaching. Don’t worry—I do laugh at myself, too, as will you.

Opening/Centering/Warm Up

Practice this 4min centering routine each day, shown in constructive rest but easily could be done in simple seat (sukhasana) or in a chair

Learn in 3min how to do abdominal work with a yoga belt to bring more activation to the core

Learn in 2min how to externally rotate your upper arms using "dots" and "xs" (could be done while seated, as shown, or standing up)

Learn in 3min a shoulder-opening routine you can do each day

Learn in 3min how to engage the core while doing this reclined hamstring stretch posture

Practice this 3min video to warm up and stretch the hamstrings through reclined foot to hand pose; remember to do it twice (again on the second side)!


Standing Poses

In 2min, learn this foundational pose to all other yoga postures

In this 3min video, warm up the shoulders in flexion and extension and review the beginning of sun salutations between mountain pose and forward fold, retaining the lift of the chest and extension of the spine

Learn in 4min the ins and outs of warrior 2 pose

Experience tree pose from a number of other positions prior to this standing balancing pose, all in less than 4min

Practice in 4min both sides of warrior 1 pose, using a block to reinforce the grounding of the back heel and the rotation of the torso towards center


Inversions/Inversion Prep

Learn in 3min through a variety of supine postures how to prep for handstand

Learn in 1min how to do half handstand at the wall (or with a chair)


Backbends

Learn in less than 90 seconds how to work on supported baby cobra pose

Review in just 60sec the use of blocks in upward facing dog to maintain the lift of the front shoulders and the length of the collar bones


Forward Folds

Learn in 2min how to do wide-legged forward fold with a yoga belt to bring more activation to the legs


Restorative

Review in 90sec two basic setups for reclined hero's pose

Set up in 2min for reclined bound angle pose, also known as reclined cobbler's pose
