My journey down the yoga path began through injury. I ran cross country and track in high school, was a Division I athlete at university and continued training and racing post-collegiately in Washington, D.C. Unfortunately, two foot surgeries caused me to hang up my racing flats prematurely and instead to stumble into my first yoga class - an Iyengar class at Unity Woods. I had no idea at the time that losing my first love (running) would result in finding the love of a lifetime (yoga).
I undertook my first teacher training at Boundless Yoga in Washington, D.C. under Kim Weeks and Kristen Krash while finishing my second year of graduate school, and upon moving to New York City, I completed my second teacher training at YogaWorks in NYC while working in marketing for PepsiCo. Since then, although my "day jobs" might have changed, my practice and teaching of yoga have not.
I taught for years at the various YogaWorks studios in NYC and now teach weekly at YogaWorks 14th Street in my “home” of D.C. I am assisting my second yoga teacher training program this Fall/Winter at YogaWorks here in D.C. I also teach private lessons and write about my experiences as both student and teacher.
I approach my classes with insight and understanding about the work-life imbalances of today's culture and with empathy about physical limitations due to injury, accident or otherwise. I teach grounded, alignment-based classes that get the body moving with the breath.
I am also the Vice President of Marketing & Communications for Yoga Alliance & the Yoga Alliance Foundation.
